Zemgale and Aukštaitija invite you to discover river routes that are both well-known and lesser-known – suitable for peaceful relaxation or nature adventures. Here you will find both large and small rivers that become real boating gems in spring! In Zemgale and Sēlija there are 56 boating routes on 12 different rivers, and in Aukštaitija there are 28 routes on 12 rivers. The routes include different levels of difficulty and are suitable for experienced boaters, families with children and anyone who wants to enjoy the proximity of water and natural landscapes.
The routes follow important rivers, from the mighty Daugava, known as the River of Destiny, to the Lielupe, the largest river in Zemgale, and the unpredictable Iecava, which winds its way through the Latvian landscape. In Lithuania, the picturesque and varied Šventoji is definitely worth exploring, as is the Nevėžis, a jewel of the central Lithuanian lowlands with an ancient valley whose beauty beckons all boaters. A special adventure is the possibility to cross the border between the two countries, for example on the River Mēmele (Nemunėlis) from Biržai to Bauska or on the River Mūsa (Mūša), where it is possible to plan routes on both sides. These cross-border routes offer a unique opportunity to experience both Latvian and Lithuanian nature on one trip. The less known and quieter rivers such as the Suseja, Vircava, Platone, Svēte and Kriauna (Līčupe), which are located on the border, as well as the Būka, Vyžuona, Jara and Dysna rivers, which flow through wild landscapes, also offer exciting adventures, most suitable for thrill-seekers! Choose Zemgale and Aukštaitija as your next boating destination and enjoy unforgettable moments on the water!
