Meņķis Historic Mill Complex
Near the Daugava River in Dignāja Parish, Meņķis is a historic manor and mill complex where the past meets the present. Its impressive dolomite buildings, historic mill and preserved equipment offer a glimpse into the area’s rural industrial heritage.
The Mill – a Time Capsule
The historic Meņķis Mill is the heart of the complex. Much of its more than century-old milling equipment has survived in its original location. Flour, groats, oatmeal and semolina were once produced here, making the mill a remarkable time capsule of Latvia’s industrial past.
A museum is planned for the future, allowing visitors to discover more of Meņķis and its history.
History Beneath Your Feet
Meņķis still holds many secrets. Various historic objects, machinery parts and everyday artefacts have been discovered while clearing the site. Old cellars, wells and other structures are still being explored, gradually revealing more about the former manor.
A Place Coming Back to Life
Today, the owner, Raivis Baltris, and his friends are restoring and developing Meņķis. The area is being cleared and renewed, while sheep graze the grounds and volunteers and visitors bring new life to the site.
Visitors can explore the historic mill and grounds by prior arrangement with the Meņķis hosts.
