Description
Vaiķi stone is one of the 15 largest stones in Latvia. The magnificent secular stone (7.5 x 5.7 x 2.6 m; volume 45 m3) is red-brown Rapakivi granite and the large crystals it contains sparkle in the sun. It is clearly visible from the Riga- Daugavpils motorway, where it can be seen in all its glory about 50 m from the road. The impressive foot of the stone sometimes shimmers in the water, but even in rainy weather, when the stone surface can be slippery, the flat surface of the stone can be reached thanks to the wooden ladders near the stone.
In 2008 Latvijas Pasts also issued a stamp dedicated to the Vaiķi secular stone. For those who enjoy peaceful nature.
